Former Indian Captain MS Dhoni had taken various surprising decisions in his cricketing career. In ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 Twenty20 final, Dhoni asked Joginder Sharma to bowl the final over which was surprising. Similarly, he promoted himself ahead of Yuvraj Singh during World Cup Final 2011.

But the unique thing about Mahi is that the on-field decisions taken by him under critical situations have mostly gone in his favor. MS Dhoni now revealed the reason behind the surprising decision of promoting himself ahead of Yuvraj Singh who is the Man of the Series in that tournament.

In the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 final, Sri Lanka scored a total of 274 runs on board where Mahela Jayawardene scored 103 runs.

In reply, Team India found themselves shaking at 2/31 after losing two major wickets of Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar. Then Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli hold the innings with an important 83-run stand for the third wicket.

Then in the 22nd over, Virat Kohli was dismissed and then Dhoni came to bat and sealed the match with a 109-run stand for the fourth wicket.

Dhoni during the launch of MS Dhoni Residential Cricket Academy in Dongargaon town revealed that he knows most of the bowlers of Sri Lanka as they were part of the Chennai Super Kings earlier. He promoted himself because Muralitharan was bowling at that time.

Dhoni told that he has played with Muralitharan a lot in the CSK nets and he was confident that he will be able to score runs freely against him. That was one of the main reasons why he pushed himself up the order during the final.

Mahi’s decision was good for team India as he made 91 runs in ICC World Cup 2011 final. MS Dhoni is one of the most successful cricket captains of all time. He said that before him selectors were quite reluctant to make stumper as captain. As per selectors perspective, they said that he will be burdened too much.

But Dhoni changed their view with his successful tenure as the captain. Mahi said, “Keeper is in the best position to help any captain analyze the match. He is very close to the action and can accordingly guide the team leader about many things. He is an asset for any captain. He can release the burden on the captain with his inputs,".
