7 Places to Visit in Pushkar

Pushkar,located in Ajmer, is renowned for the glory, history and culture it showcases. The city in Rajasthan happens to be one of the oldest in the country. It also has a religious significance, as it houses some of the rare temples of Hindu Gods like Lord Brahma. This apart, the city is also popular for the annual cattle fair, the holy lake and a handful of adventure activities. Pushkar is simply perfect for all tourists, domestic as well as international. If you happen to be in Rajasthan, then do not forget to come to Pushkar as there some must-visit places in the city.

Brahma Temple

The temple happens to be Pushkar’s biggest and most famous temple. It is located in Pushkar and is definitely one of places to visit in Pushkar. A red spire marks the temple and there are goose symbols at the entrance. The floors and walls of the temple contain carvings commemorating the dead. For the sake of a good experience, the visit should coincide with the special prayer service at the temple. It opens for devotees and visitors from 5:00 am to 1:30 pm & 3 pm to 9 pm on all days.

Savitri Mata Temple

The temple is located on the Ratnagiri Hill and a ropeway ride leads to the place. Hence, it becomes very convenient to climbatopto reach the temple. Visitors can also hike up to the temple through the Ratnagiri Hill. People can get some attractive views of the lake and Pushkar’s skyline from the temple complex.  Inside the temple, there are beautiful idols of goddesses Savitri and Gayatri. The timing of the temple happens to be 5:00 am to 12:00 pm & 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm on all days.

Gurdwara Singh Sabha

This Sikh temple is one of the sights to behold in Pushkar and is located in Pushkar. Anyone is allowed inside provided they cover their head with a cloth. The temple provides a shawl or a cloth to cover your head free of cost. Inside the temple you will come across a spiritual guru who is always meditating and chanting prayers that are soothing for the soul. On Sundays, they have a langar (free food service) where they serve delicious vegetarian food to every visitors of the temple. However, photography is strictly prohibited inside the temple.

Pushkar Lake

This a must-visit place for all tourists, as the Pushkar Lake provides for some magnificent views. There are close to 52 bathing Ghats around the river which are frequented by scores of devotees. During the holy period of Kartik Poornima, locals as well as devotees from across the country go to the lake for a holy dip. Many temples encircle the lake with the temple of God Brahma being the closest. As per mythology, this place is where Brahma performed yagna. If you happen to be in Pushkar, a visit to this place is a must, if you lovetran quility and Indian architecture.

Varah Ghat

The Varah Ghat is associated with famous Pushkar fair. The legend has it thatit is the site where Vishnu turned into a boar to ward off evil spirits. Evening is the best time to visit the Ghat, especially when the Aarti is held. It provides a unique and spiritual experience.

Man Mahal

The palace-turned-guest house is located close to theSarovar Lake. The Man Mahal was a beautiful palacein the past and was built by Amber’s Raja Man Singh. The palace has a beautiful architecture, in typical Rajasthani style and offers great views of the area. For tourists,major attractions are mind-blowing sunset views of the lakes and temples around the guest house.

So, in Pushkar there are some must-visit places that should notto be missed at any cost. The city being a small one, places can be explored on foot as well. However, bike and Camel Safari can also be used to take in the splend or of Pushkar.
