Lack of cohesion between management and employees

Lack of cohesion between management and employees is exacerbated by the discussion involving getting into a new market. Management makes major decisions, like that of entering a new market but has no formal communication with employees, rather simply issuing a list of expectations. While employees are involved in the day-to-day operations and capabilities of the business, they should not be left out in the decision-making processes. The lack of involvement causes a rift between employees and management. Additionally, it results in low expectations of success and low morale by employees (Alfes et al., 2013). The Elizabeth demonstrates poor management skills. Management needs to be more inclusive and take input from employees as their suggestions can go a long way in making appropriate decisions.  Management should set the tone at an organization, as it starts at the top.  Company leadership should set a strong teamwork example in order for cohesion to take root in the organization. Management should balance the desire for healthy debate and cohesion in order to avoid faulty decision-making due to pressure to conform (Alfes & Soane, 2013).

Poor communication

Another issue that requires addressing is the lack of clear communication in CanGo. Nick does not know what to expect from the performance evaluation process. This may be due to the lack of clear communications of what the organization expects from him as an employee. He is later surprised at his performance evaluation results detailing his good performance in quantity, quality of work as well as appearance. It signals the lack of a formal communication plan and assigned objectives to employees. CanGo requires a plan that outlines the roles and responsibilities of employees. The plan should also be communicated and disseminated to allow employees to know what is expected of them and carry out their roles effectively (Welch, 2011).

Lack of motivation

Nick was on duty when the servers crashed more than a few times. He also messed up the computer database and lost important data.  The scene demonstrates low morale among employees. Morale is a state of mind which involves emotions and feelings often considered an elusive quality. Employee Morale determines the attitude and perception towards the job, team members, managers, work environment and the organization as a whole. Negative employee morale is often exhibited by indiscipline and unwillingness to perform.  Morale is essential to employee and organizational performance and is regularly influenced from the top down. Control mode and a top-down command may determine low morale in employees. This implies that managers need to reciprocate by doing the listening as well. 

Management is denied firsthand view of problems when they prohibit open dialogue on workplace issues. It consequently leads to a gap when addressing the organizational problems and can further exacerbate them, leading to low morale and employee motivation. Less engaged employees are less productive and prone to adopting counterproductive behavior and withdrawing their efforts. It may also occur when employees do not feel a sense of ownership over their job or management is unclear about expectations.  Low morale cause individuals to lose interest in taking an extra mile, particularly when they do not care about the projects assigned or feel valued by managers (Herzberg & Snyderman, 2011).  Low morale is also demonstrated by Nick serious lack of focus. He thinks he should have paid more attention to his job. Also, Warren notes that his jokes were terrible.
