Structuring Your Essay Like an Expert

Essay writing is a crucial part of academic life. You might be asked to produce an essay or a formal piece of writing now and then as a part of your evaluation process. With an essay, structuring it and then following through with the idea you have in mind is not easy. The points below will help give you a head start on how to write your essay like an expert.

Make an Outline
Create an outline before you start writing your assignment. You might get new thoughts and ideas on the way but do check whether the new idea goes well with the outline and the paragraph you’re currently writing before incorporating it into your writing.

Plan your Paragraphs
Convey your theme for a particular paragraph in its first line so that the reader knows about the topic. The theme is more than just the content you came across while researching. Create a plan for conveying your theme and making a point about the information you want to discuss. An outline will help you guide on how you should transition from one point to another in a smooth way.

Link your Paragraphs
Analyze your outline and determine what factors connect different parts of the essay. If you have any recurring ideas, connect them with linking words to make the reader aware of similarities, differences, and comparisons. The flow/direction of the essay must make sense to the reader, and linking words help in making the direction clear.

Parts of the essay
It is a good idea to create a generalized list of rules for writing introduction, body, paragraph and the conclusion for the essay you are working on. Always give special consideration to the type of essay that you have been assigned to create content in the most relevant and fitting way by structuring it accordingly.
Most of the times, you are not required to give headings for the introduction and conclusion, but the rule may change depending on the type of essay you are working on.

Writing an introduction:
Introductions give an insight into the topic in a very general way. They include the following:
•    A general idea of the topic by giving a brief contextual background
•    A synopsis and a general overview of the ideas that you will discuss.
•    The theme or main idea of the essay that needs to be conveyed.
Using the main words of the questions in the introduction helps show that you are on the right track to explore the topic. This helps keep the reader interested.

Writing the main body
All the paragraphs of the essay must be relevant to the outline: should make a point and must be connected to the thesis statement. The most important purpose of the body is to develop the argument to support your case by linking different points of the paragraphs. Structure your paragraphs appropriately by making a point in the starting sentence and then supporting it through references and research.

Conclude methodically
When it concludes, try not to add any new ideas which have not been discussed in the main body before. Stick to the theme and try to wrap it up with a statement or suggestion which might help in the future research of the topic.

Writing and structuring a formal essay is not easy. This is the reason many essay writers are providing the service to the students on websites like SimpleTense.com.
