How to Avoid House Fire?

We all know that fire can cause devastating destruction. People who have been through it know it well. All of a sudden your house is burnt down, any reminder of the memories you made vanish in thin air, you have to suffer huge financial loss, and may be even the loss of life.

It is important that we take every precautionary measure that we can to avoid fire from breaking out in the first place. Some of the measures may be as little as high-temp insulation tape. Some of the other things that you should be careful about have been mentioned below.

  • Even if you feel that all the electrical systems are working fine, it is a good idea to get the systems checked out by professionals every few months.
  • Set heaters in a place where they are not in the traffic of the room.
  • It is not recommended that you use extension cord with space heater.
  • Do not store any sort of inflammable liquid in the utility room or the garage that has a pilot light appliance present in it. It is best that you store those items out of the house in a separate shed.
  • Burn only dry and seasoned wood to avoid the buildup of creosote in the building. You can use glass-fire doors or windows to prevent embers from popping out of the fireplace.
  • Use heaters only on firm and solid surfaces. Placing them on a chair or a table where they may tip over can be very dangerous.
  • Never drape fabrics over any kind of light to dim them. It would be a better option to get a bulb that is dimmer or to turn it off and not use it.
  • Be careful when using extension cord. You may not even realize but the foot-traffic or the moving or furniture could damage it, which could cause a fire later on. If you have to use a cord for something like holiday lighting then use a cord of good quality that is made for the particular purpose.
  • When you use oil for cooking, it is very important that you close the lid. This is one of the most common causes for houses catching fire. If flame does appear, do not panic, simply suffocate it and turn off the stove.
  • Using mica tape electrical insulation also helps to stop the fire from catching on and even spreading to different areas.

These are some of the common yet vital tips that will help to protect your home from fire.
