Sourav Ganguly who is popularly known as Dada which means elder brother. Ganguly earned the nickname ‘God of the Off Side’ for his elegant strokeplay square of the wicket and through the covers.
After Indian captain Sachin Tendulkar resigned his position due to some match-fixing scandal by other players, Sourav Ganguly was made the captain of the Indian cricket team. He is one of the greatest captains of Indian cricket of all time.
Sourav Ganguly is the 8th highest run scorer in One Day Internationals. In 2002, the Wisden Cricketers Almanack ranked Sourav Ganguly as the sixth greatest ODI batsman of all time. The list includes Viv Richards, Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara, Dean Jones and Michael Bevan.
Ganguly is also the third batsman to cross the 10,000 run landmark, after Sachin Tendulkar and Inzamam Ul Haq. Sourav Ganguly is one of the world's leading batsmen who played for Team India.
In the 1999 World Cup, Ganguly made the highest overall partnership of 318 runs scored along with Rahul Dravid in the World Cup tournament history. In 2004, Sourav Ganguly was awarded the Padma Shri which is one of India's highest civilian awards.
Currently, Former Indian cricketer and captain of Men in Blue Sourav Ganguly is appointed as the President of the Cricket Association of Bengal and President of the Editorial Board with Wisden India.
In January 2016, Ganguly was appointed by Supreme Court as one of the four members of the Indian Premier League's Governing Council who is responsible for all the functions of the IPL tournament. He is also a member of Technical Committee of Indian Premier League.
