Surprise Your Child with a Wonderful Breakfast

Posted by Sam Smith on December 12th, 2018

Breakfast is the first and most important meal of the day. There are many benefits associated with eating a well-balanced meal at the start of the day, and this is especially true for children. Research has found that a child who skips breakfast, is more likely to ‘feel tired, restless, or irritable’. In addition, children who never miss the first meal of the day are also more likely to maintain a healthy weight and have the brain power to perform throughout the day.

Despite how important breakfast is, preparing a meal with healthy nutrients and presenting it differently to interest your child can be a challenging task.  This post by Trillium School, a preschool in Markham, provides you with several breakfast ideas so your child can enjoy a delicious meal to begin each day.

  • Cheese and Herb Quiche

A quiche is a baked flan or tart that is commonly eaten cold or room temperature. To make it extra delicious, add a topping of cheese and herbs for flavouring. Cheese contains protein, calcium, zinc, magnesium, phosphorus and other important nutrients to help your child grow health and strong. This dish has a low preparation time and can be easily made on a Sunday for the family to enjoy all week.

Chocolate Zucchini Bread

All kids love chocolate, but, how about adding some nutritional ingredients in it? Zucchini is low in saturated fat, sodium and cholesterol and a rich source of vitamins, potassium, magnesium and other nutrients. Chocolate zucchini bread is sweet and adds an essential vegetable to your child’s diet.

  • Scrambled Egg Tacos

Eggs are an important food for all children as they are rich in protein. Serving scrambled eggs to your kid every day may become boring, which is why being creative and filling a taco is a great alternative. Add lettuce leaves, olives and bell peppers to make it tasty and extra nutritious.

  • Smoothies

If you want to ensure that your child is consuming all essential nutrients such as calcium and protein, then make them smoothies. Smoothies contain milk, yogurt, vegetables and fruits like strawberries, bananas, blueberries and others. This is a wholesome drink and one cup or a bottle is enough for to satisfy your child’s hunger for the morning. You can additionally serve this beverage in an interesting cup or bottle to make it look appealing

  • Burritos

As a similar alternative to tacos, a burrito is also another great breakfast meal that can be filled with a variety of nutritious foods. A breakfast burrito is a tortilla rolled and filled with vegetables, beans,  meat or egg. If you run out of time in the morning, you can make them and keep in the refrigerator. Kids will love it for being delicious and something different.

  • Pancakes

Pancakes are a favourite breakfast for many children and always brings a smile to their face in the morning. The thin flat cakes of batter take no time to whip up, and they can be served with chocolate, strawberry or maple syrup. They are a perfect balance of sweet and savoury flavours and also go very well with fruits, nuts and chocolate chips.

  • Waffle Bacon Egg Sandwich

If your kid loves waffles, then instead of serving them a traditional waffle with chocolate, try adding eggs and bacon in it. This fun combination ensures they eat a variety of important nutrients in one meal. You can still add a few drops of maple syrup on it to make this a hardy morning treat.

  • Mini Muffins

Muffins can be prepped and made at the start of the week, and kids love them. You can complement this spongy cake with several ingredients such as chocolates, bananas, cheese, blueberries and raspberries.

Some More Interesting Breakfast Ideas for Your Kids

  • If you’re running late to work and no time for making lavish breakfast for your kid, then spread cream cheese on a tortilla and add fresh fruits.
  • Serve oatmeal with your kid’s favourite toppings like raisins, choco chips, fruits or a scoop of yogurt.
  • Be creative with toast and cut out various shapes and season it with butter, peanut butter, chocolate spread or cheese.
