Know More About Sensors: Where and Why Do We Need Them?

Posted by Nabin Shaw on December 17th, 2018

As the years go by, our scientists and inventors are continually finding ways to make our lives easier. One of these innovations is known as sensors; the primary purpose of which is to provide additional assistance to make our lives easier and more efficient.

Sensors play an important role because they help us interact easily and connect with different things around us. Sensors can be found almost everywhere. You can see them in your smartphones, light bulbs, security cameras, cars, alarms and so much more. In general, a sensor is defined as a thing or device created to provide accurate measurements that save and provide data or give out appropriate responses.

The invention of sensors including the tilt sensor is considered a blessing in our lives. To some people who are not that technologically inclined, it is understandable if we lack the knowledge or do not have any idea about sensors and their real purpose and impact on our lives. But little do we know that this small device has been around for more than a hundred years already.

If you want to know more about the basic functions of a sensor, here are some examples of how they can benefit our daily lives.

  1. Temperature control

The latest models of climate control systems are equipped with thermostats where you can find temperature sensor modules that automatically adjust the temperature to make sure that the people in buildings or establishments are kept as comfortable as possible. There is no need to get up and adjust the temperature manually, making things easier for everyone.

  1. More efficient means of communication

Cell phones are equipped with a lot of microsensors that make them easier for us to make and receive calls, send text messages and access the Internet through Wi-Fi or a wireless Internet connection. We are quite lucky to be part of the smartphone generation because it makes communication easier and more affordable for everyone.

In some countries you can use your smartphones for the following things:

  • Cashless transactions including grocery shopping and fare payments
  • Alternative to your TV and HD box remote control
  • Control or set your home’s anti-theft alarm, thermostat, and CCTV camera
  1. Provides added security on the road

The latest car models on the market are now equipped with additional safety features. Cars, pickups, and SUVs come with crash sensors that alert the driver for any incoming collisions so that they can respond in a timely manner. This advanced feature has saved a lot of people from possible fatal accidents. Both drivers and passengers now have more peace of mind, especially during long-distance driving.

  1. Better lighting options

Motion sensor controlled lighting is a reliable residential and commercial fixture that is designed to save energy and electric bills. Motion sensor lights have the following features:

  • Affordable or price friendly
  • Easy to install, no need to hire people to replace your bulbs
  • Environment-friendly or less carbon footprint
  • Money saver, lower utility bills
  • Energy saver, no need to worry about leaving lights unattended. It also lasts longer than regular light bulbs.

Understanding sensors makes us appreciate how they make our lives easier.
