Actions That Make You Unhappy

In life, it’s all smooth sailing until you hit an unpredictable turn. Out of nowhere, you’re faced with situations that are completely foreign to you. The worst part is it doesn’t stop.

You have to deal with things that shake your foundation of values, make you question your beliefs and dim the sparkle that your life once had. Some part of the journey can be peaches and cream, while others can be filled with prickly thorns.

For some, this is an everyday battle. They carry a heavy burden at all times, invisible to others, but all too real for them.

While it’s true that joy means something different to each of us, it’s also true that there are some universal forms of unhappiness for us all.

These moments of sadness and disillusionment can be caused by forces outside of our control. However, unhappiness can also be self-induced.

There are many things that give birth to misery. Our own mindset and actions are some of the leading causes.

Are you guilty of these actions that make you unhappy?

The Perfectionist in You

You might think that labeling yourself a perfectionist is great. Perfection is overrated. It’s not what we think—it’s what the APA states. As per their research, obsession with perfection is related to mental disorders.

The harder you try to meet non-existent standards, the more your own well-being will take a back seat. Rather than ambitious, the feat of perfectionism is surprisingly sad.

“Am I As Good As They Are?”

We’ve all replayed this a thousand times. So what makes comparing ourselves to others such a dangerous thing?

Feelings of worthlessness and low self-esteem are exacerbated when you compare yourself with your peers. Remember that you are your own person—a unique being that has no parallel. The experiences, the pain, the joy and the sorrow that make you you are special. They are not to be matched with someone else.

Persistent Pessimism

It will never work out for me,” “Life is always going to be this hard,” “I don’t do anything right”…these thoughtsare toxic.

A pessimistic mindset will always keep you from truly enjoying your feats and living your happy moments with loved ones.

The beauty of life is its unpredictability. You never know what might happen next. Resist being a Debbie Downer. Instead, channel positive, harmonious thoughts about your future and see them manifest into reality.
