The interview was conducted with one of the restaurant managers in California. In this interview, I was seeking to establish the challenges that these operators face in their daily operations with the objective of realizing a reliable assessment of the industry considering that at some point I would like to own and operate one. The interview was conducted at the manager’s place of work as I wanted to assess the natural feeling of the environment and that I would ensure the manager has access to any records he would need for clarifications in addition to ensuring he is not distracted from his daily operations. Overall, the main objective of the interview was in an attempt to assess the biggest problems they faced in their operations and that they were yet to resolve.

In the assessment of the greatest changes in the industry, the manager asserted that the continued use of technologies is the biggest change. According to him, the continued use of technology in the industry such as the self-service applications that allow customers to make orders and pay online, stock management platforms, table restaurant management among others.

On the products and services, they wish they had but do not where the manager argued that accessing some of the IT platforms that would enhance their operational effectiveness as well as ease their ordering is the product they do not know where to obtain.

The manager says that their inventory management platforms do have a real time updating feature that would ease the management of their inventory to ensure they do not run out of the essential supplies.

The manager asserts that he would wish to outsource the restaurant’s IT management services although his reservations are about the high costs of outsourcing for the specialists arguing that an in-house team has been a bit cheap.

The biggest complaint about their workflow has been on the piling up of customer order and mix-ups of the same orders, which has led to some customers leaving the restaurant due to frustrations.

The manager argues that their customers have been demanding for applications that allow them to make orders from their homes and restaurant tables to additionally ensure there are no mix-ups of their orders but the intensive capital needed has made it impossible for them to provide the platforms.

According to the manager, the lack of technology integration is the only element that has been holding them hostage. While the bigger establishments are integrating the latest technologies in their operations, the manager asserts that the capital required is a bit too high for them. Among the main areas that technology would improve for the restaurant include the management of customer orders and real-time inventory management in addition to online ordering and reservations.

The manager believes the current regulations are appropriate for the operators in the restaurant industry but believes that implementation of stricter eco-friendly management requirements would make it imperative they install equipment that is less dependent on charcoal and diesel fuels.

The manager wishes that the costs of accessing technological research and solutions in the restaurant industry were cheaper as through this, they would invest in solutions that would improve the quality of life for both the operators and customers.

From this interview, it is evident that investing in low-cost restaurant technological applications is a business idea that would meet the current challenges faced in the industry. Training on the use of IT is additionally an idea that would benefit the operators while investing in inventory management platforms for lease could help the establishments with challenges in accessing the service. Further, low-cost IT outsourcing services to assess the challenges and suggest solutions is an additional business service that would help these establishments succeed in their service delivery.
