What not to expect from a SEO expert ?Posted by Seema Sharma on December 23rd, 2018 A lot has been written about what to expect from your SEO expert: Identify winning Keywords But this post is not about that! I decided to write something for those customers, so they could comprehend -"What NOT to expect from their SEO expert". This is not an act of rebellion against my clients, or potential clients (as if I shall scorn my livelihood:--RRB-, but rather an upfront observation based on customer interactions through recent years. The majority of them were comparatively benign questions from innocent customers, but some came from customers with powerful expectations of what they thought were the roles and responsibilities of the SEO expert. # Don't anticipate the SEO expert will increase your earnings Even though SEO increases the targeted traffic to your site, it can't make sure that the user will convert to a sale. The sale is dependent upon your product, services, rates, credibility in company, the demand and supply, as well as the way they are marketed on the internet. But you can build metrics for calculating conversions (ROI - Return of Investment) for example on an individual submission of an enquiry form, or a user registration, or enrolling in a newsletter etc.. # Do not expect a brand new site be ranked in 2-3 weeks I won't beat around the bush. A new site will generally require 5 to 6 weeks prior to the selected keywords start ranking on page #1 of search results. Yes it helps if you're creating valuable articles, syndicating and promoting this content, working on a blog, take part in relevant societal communities and building relevant links, but that does not imply that you don't have to cross the"time threshold". If you have a domain name 3 decades or old, it will generally be easier to begin seeing results in under 3 months. In case you have already been doing quality link building and after SEO fundamentals, and searching for improving your visibility and ranking, then the"time threshold" can be greatly reduced. # Do not expect search rankings to alter each week SEO is not cause and effect. So don't anticipate your search position to move up 5 places because you have done web directory entries and social bookmarking last month. It just does not work in this manner. What you could expect is that after a period of focused effort (generally 3 - 4 weeks ) you will find a quantum leap in your search positions (sometimes a few pages), of course based on the competition for those keywords. # Do not anticipate search position #1, #2, #3, #4... Many clients ask for #1, #2, #3 positions in search listings with a guarantee. Yes, it's possible following a year of effort, but even then I will not give the client any guarantee. Page #1 might be the ideal goal I suggest. There could be instances you may need to even settle for page #2 for very competitive keywords. # Do not expect a Guarantee There's no guarantee potential. And should you find a company or person ready to give you a guarantee, do assess as there could be a catch. Concentrate on creating valuable articles, syndicate that content, and encourage it across relevant societal, web and user communities. If you're able to do this consistently, you do not need any guarantees. # Don't anticipate the SEO expert to work on Results based Remuneration This expectation is so common that it disturbs me. Are there any SEO experts out there ready to market their time, hard work and community to get a free ride? In that case, then I must ask them why? And perhaps so if you... # Don't expect your SEO to design, write, program, become a webmaster... While a SEO expert can be designer, a developer, a marketing pro, or a webmaster, it's not necessary for a SEO expert to have all those abilities. Like it? Share it!More by this author |
