Biometric access control in Gyms

What are Biometric devices?

Essentially, biometric devices analyse and measure biological data through characteristics of the human body, such as fingerprints, facial recognition, and voice patterns, to name a few. As these physiognomies are unique to the individual, collected biological data can be used for verification and access control.

The rising popularity and assured security of biometric access control devices have resulted in active applications in nearly every sector – corporations, medical facilities, and of course, leisure & fitness centres.

Traditional membership cards vs enhanced security

On an average basis, gyms and fitness centres have a daily foot-traffic in the hundreds, 90% of which are registered members. Membership cards are issued to paying clients to not only permit entry and track sales, but to screen daily traffic flows, monitor time & attendance – to determine how many employees to staff, and what hours are ideal for classes and activities.

Instead of the traditional, time consuming manual check of membership cards or sign in methods, a fingerprint access control system provides a faster and easier method of admission and attendance calculation, whilst eliminating the chances of delays due to lost membership cards.

Modern fingerprint systems even rule out the possibility of hacking; Unlike traditional fingerprint readers which simply stored an impression, current systems measure distances between certain ridges and convert the resulting information to a binary code which is then matched with a previously encrypted one, ensuring maximum security and ease of access.

In Short, a properly implemented biometric access control is more cost-effective than traditional methods; - it eases burdens on gym security, provides infallible, detailed data for gym access, aids in matters of theft or damage, is eco-friendly, and beneficial for both management and members.
