Tooth Decay

How does it start?

Whenever you eat something and do not brush your teeth, a plaque or a sticky layer of bacteria forms on your teeth. And when you eat something sweet or drink something containing sugar, the bacteria in the plaque reacts with the sugar and produces an acid that eats through your teeth. The plaque keeps the acid connected with your teeth until it is rotten or cavities are formed.

Causes of the tooth decay:-

Tooth Decay and Cavities occur when you do not clean your mouth properly or if you have a medical issue.

Poor Dental Hygiene:

Not brushing your teeth regularly is a big cause of the tooth decay and cavities.

Sugar:

Sugar in your meal and sweet dishes are probably the main cause of cavities. They react with the bacteria in your mouth to form an acid that eats your tooth.

Lack of Fluoride:

Fluoride fights off the bacteria in your mouth. Lack of fluoride can cause the bacteria to grow and create cavities.

Problems caused by tooth decay:-

Tooth decay and cavities are normal between children because of their sweet diet and sugar but it can become a big problem for teenagers and adults. Gums begin to lose their grip on the teeth, which can expose the root of a teeth to the acid and then root decay. Tooth roots are more likely and faster to decay because of the softer tissues surrounding it.

Tips to stop tooth decay in its tracks:-

Tooth decay is caused by a lot of things and you need some tips and tricks to prevent that from happening.

Brushing twice a day:

Brushing twice a day is very important for your oral health whether you have tooth decay or not. Fluoride toothpaste also helps in preventing cavities and bacteria. Brushing after every meal and especially before going to bed is far more effective than brushing only in the morning.

 Floss:

There are places between your teeth where a toothbrush can not reach. These places are often left uncleaned. This is where cavities start and leave a hole in your teeth. Flossing cleans out everything stuck in your teeth and leaves no chance of cavities there.

Mouthwash:

Mouthwash is usually the last step of mouth cleaning. It kills the bacteria in your mouth and leaves your mouth and breath fresh. It can reach everywhere in your mouth and clean stuff out that no other thing can.

If none of this works and you still feel cavities and tooth decay in your mouth, you should consult with your dentist immediately because it can become a serious issue. Or you can contact a professional and experienced dentist
