Anxiety grows from the fear that your breathing will cease and you would never be able to recover. The fact is that panic attacks will never stop your breathing.

Panic attacks are related to the increase in the speed and depth of breathing. It is but obvious that your body creates a defence mechanism to fight such situations and hence they tissues require more oxygen to prepare for action. Thus the feelings produced by this increase in breathing cause breathlessness.

The side effect of increased breathing is that the supply of blood to the head gets decreased. This decreased amount oxygen may not be life-threatening but is unnatural and therefore causes dizziness, blurred vision, confusion, etc.

  1. Physical Effects- Panic attacks have certain physical effects as well since the sympathetic nervous system gets activated. The pupils widen to let in more light and results in blurred visions. The salivation decreases resulting in dry mouth and there is minimal activity in the digestive system that causes nausea and feeling heaviness in the stomach. Some also experience constipation. Certain muscles in the body tighten up for the fight which results in the feeling of tension and causes actual aches and pains, sometimes trembling and shaking.
