NIW approval with EAD. Can I work for a law firm as freelancer? Will it be consi

I recently got my NIW approval through a DIY kit and already got my EAD. My supervisor is out of funding so I lost my postdoc job. Do I have to look for another postdoc job? My friend forwarded to me a remote writer position in a law firm. Can I do something like this? The job only requires bachelor degree and does not require scientific background. Also, will unemployment affect my NIW approval or pending I-485?
I am still look for another postdoc job. However, I hope to work as a freelancer temporarily to support my living cost before landing a new job.
I am wondering if this is illegal or not?
