IP surveillance is a more advanced form of the closed-circuit television (CCTV). In this system, an IP camera records images and sounds which gets distributed over an IP (Internet protocol) network. It is thus a digital version of the earlier analog system found in the CCTV.

• Wide angles lenses must be used to cover the image of an area that is spread out.
• To enable recording at night or dim light the surveillance camera should have the infrared (IR) technology.

The IP surveillance system is finding greater place in the industry due to obvious advantages over the more traditional analog CCTV system.
