Technology And Process For Manufacturing Contact Lenses

Posted by SEO TEAM on January 9th, 2019

Many people use contact lenses today rather than spectacles. They can look attractive even if they have an eye problem. But, the process of manufacturing contact lenses is complex. The manufacturer should use many machines and tools that can enhance the productivity of contact lenses. They also give advice to the clients to use appropriate contact lenses. The process of manufacturing contact lenses is complex as it includes different processes such as mold design optimization, lens designing, material formulation, blister package designing and packaging etc. So, they use advanced technology and equipments to manufacture contact lenses.

Cast molding process

To manufacture contact lenses, they use cast molding technology. In the first stage, the polymer formulation takes place. Then the manufacturers plan different lens designs. The single line assembly manufactures different types of designs with different materials such as spherical, aspheric, or tonic which are daily or monthly disposable. The contact lens material comprise of 35% to 73% water content.

Process of manufacturing

The process of manufacturing first includes dry process flow. It is the process of insertion, where the edge is carefully cut and inserted and then the process of metrology is undertaken to ensure that it is inserted. These lenses can be stored carefully and even transported to separate the site. Then the technology uses injection molding equipment to enable precise target of contact lens parameter. In the process of insert making, they use high-grade aluminum for cast molding lines.

Then the process of filling and curing takes place. The design of filling machines of any lens prisms is meant to precisely control the thickness of the lenses. The automated filling cells use large pouch screen panels to follow pictorial screens for easy operator monitoring and optimization of parameter.

Then the curing oven is used to handle large loads and to perform thermal mapping to show a uniform temperature throughout the chamber. The ovens are inserted into the gas to allow the use of nitrogen atmosphere. The dry lenses are removed from the mould and then inspected for damage and then they are packaged in the blister pack with saline solution and with the peel able lidding doll which can be steam sterilized. Then, the final stage includes the cartooning flow and a sample is tested by the quality team.

In this way, the colored cosmetic lenses or silicone hydrogenmaterials are manufactured. The quality team examines the quality of manufactured lenses and only dispatches the lenses that are usable.
