Helpful renovation tips and tricks

It happens. The building you’ve lived in and worked at becomes a bit old and in need of repair. Or it may just be that you want a change of scene. Renovation is not easy- it involves moving the things and occupants of the building to another place and then setting about the work required to do a great renovation. Here are some tips and tricks to make the best of your renovation project.

  1. Do your homework- research not only the person who’ll do the renovation for you but also the quality of materials and the accessories you’ll be spending your money on. A renovation project is a huge commitment and you need to give it to someone who is worth the time and effort. Make sure you have a contract drawn up to protect you in any eventualities.
  2. Think about the space- don’t take the renovation team’s inputs alone, think about what you’d like to have done as well. Think about each wall and shelf and what you’d like to do with it. Renovation projects are not done all the time, so do it correctly.
  3. See if you need all the work- for this, it’s important to plan your time and work required. If you can use the light coming in through the windows, don’t add more light fixtures. If an existing wall can be cut into half for more space or a decorative space, do that. Think about what colours will bring out the beauty of your new living space and how they can further the harmony of the house.
  4. Floors are essential- while much importance is given to other aspects of the space, it is the floor that truly bears the brunt of time. In the days gone past, houses were plastered with linoleum. It was effective but doesn’t do well with wear and tear. There are many hardy options to choose from today and can make or break a room.
  5. Move out- there are enough and more studies to prove that renovation while living in a residence is a huge cause of stress. Move out of the house for some peace and quiet. This will help you focus on the work at hand. You could move to a friend’s or a family member or camp out. You could also take a temporary space somewhere, just enough for temporary living. If you’re moving out, you need a place to store your stuff. This is where renting a public storage Tampa makes so much sense. A storage unit may be just what you need- it’s safe, inexpensive and can go as long or as short as you want it to.
  6. Prepare for the long haul-renovations don’t always go as planned. There could be holidays in between, the time taken could be prolonged, a material you need might not be readily available. You have to keep your cool and not hurry things. Being mentally prepared for what lies ahead is a good way to do it.
