Understand Alzheimer's and its difference from Dementia

What is Alzheimer’s?

As per some reports around 5 million people are surviving with the Alzheimer's disease in the USA. The reason is that the exact origin of the problem is still unknown and thus there is no such cure that available to help the people. This is different from Dementia which will be explained below.

The disease, Alzheimer’s, is actually a progressive disease of the brain, which gradually causes impairment in memory and its cognitive functions. The problem arises by losing the connection between the cells in the brain. Here the damage starts from a while before the disease is diagnosed. In the most advanced cases of the disease, the brain starts shrinking.

What is Dementia?

The WHO talks about Dementia, around 47.5 million people across the world are living with this. This needs to understand that, this is a syndrome, not a disease. Let’s understand the two differently as disease are different and the syndrome is actually a set of symptoms that affect mental cognitive tasks such as reasoning and memory.

This is an umbrella term, where Alzheimer’s disease can fall under. There is a variety of conditions that embrace the issue and the most common one is Alzheimer’s that lead to Dementia. The problem progresses as a really severe issue, especially for the older and aged people.   

The symptoms of Alzheimer’s

  • The person faces difficulties while remembering anything whether it is about the recent to recent happenings.
  • Faces the depression and the apathy takes place.
  • Disorientation and confusions make the situation more hell.
  • The behavioral changes making it condition worse.
  • The person faces difficulties while talking, walking and swallowing.

Dementia somehow may include or exclude a few of these symptoms that the Alzheimer’s patient survives.
