Every year, more than 10 lakhs students from across the country apply for a few thousands of seats available in government colleges. However, there are many private institutions, which offer the facility through which students can get direct second year engineering admission in the top most colleges. If you have failed to get admission in the first year engineering course then don’t lose hope because you can avail the chance of direct second year admission in the top engineering colleges. However, there are certain requirements that you need to fulfill if you want to get into the best engineering colleges. First and foremost thing that the students seeking direct second year admission need to keep in mind is that they can only switch their college if they get good marks. If students want to get into their desired college in second year of their engineering then they should secure good marks in their first year. Direct second year engineering admission is also known as lateral entry. In the start of the engineering course, many new students wish to change from Diploma engineering to Degree. However, a student can switch to different college in the second year engineering only after the completion of the stipulated 3 year diploma course from an AICTE / MSBTE recognized institutions. To get direct admission in the second year engineering in the best engineering college, an aspirant is required to do either a diploma after 10th,12th or a B.Sc. This direct second year admission in engineering is regulated by the CAP rounds particularly based on merit. There is also the reservation facility for SC/ST candidates as well as women candidates and disabled candidates. Criteria for Lateral Entry In Second Year Engineering For diploma to degree students, the DTE has made two major rules- 1. A student is required to score at least 50% in their diploma course with minimum 50% marks. However, the eligibility criteria is 45% for SC/ST students. 2. The college or polytechnic from which a student has passed out from should have teaching medium of English and should be affiliated to AICTE or any recognised education board. The candidates seeking direct second year engineering admission are required to be an India National and should have passed Post-SSC or Post-HSC Diploma Course in Engineering/Technology with at least 50% marks. However, students from the backward class categories are required to score 45% in an appropriate branch of Engineering / Technology from an AICTE approved Institution with English as the medium of instruction at Diploma level. The aspiring candidate must be an Indian National and should have passed B.Sc. Degree from a UGC / Association of Indian Universities recognized University with at least 50% marks and passed XII standard examination with Mathematics as a subject and with English as the medium of instruction at B.Sc. level.
