THE COMPLETE PICTURE OF I.K. GUJRAL PUNJAB TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY (PTU)

NOTE: This article gives you all the facts & figures of I.K.Gujral Punjab Technical University. Also, I have expressed a few things from my point of view after considering the majority of the student opinions.

 

INTRODUCTION:-

I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University was established in the year 1997 and is located in the city of Jalandhar (Punjab). It is situated near Kapurthala Highway. The main motive behind its inception is to encourage pharmaceutical, technical and management education in Punjab state. The University is smaller in terms of area. It covers an area of around 80 acres. Also, there are only a few numbers of colleges affiliated to the university. The University was named after I.K Gujral who was the former Prime Minister of India. He actually belonged to the state of Punjab and he had contributed a lot to the development of the state. Punjab Technical University has the affiliations with the following organizations:-

  • University Grants Commission (UGC)
  • National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC)
  • International Association of Universities (IAU)
  • Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU)
  • Association of Indian Universities (AIU)
  • All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE)
  • Pharmacy Council of India (PCI)
  • Council of Architecture (COA)

Coming to numbers, twenty colleges and two thousand learning centres in total are affiliated to Punjab Technical University (PTU). The interesting part is, it provides good quality education to over 4 Lakh Indian students. The university has a big-sized student library with the collection of around 9000 reference books and 1000+ thesis. 

Punjab Technical University (PTU) is known for its research and development in many areas. It offers PhD degree in 21 areas with umpteen numbers of sub-areas and the total number of students involved in research is around 1600 and still counting. Also, there are around 450 PhD guides or supervisors in total.

SOME INFORMATION AND VIEWS ABOUT PUNJAB TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY (PTU):-

  • A student who did his MBA from PTU shared his views – He got a package of 6 lakhs per annum from the company he was recruited in. Also, he said that companies like Zomato, Yes Bank, Google, Asian Paints, HSBC etc. visit the campus during placement season.
  • There is an annual cultural fest of Punjab Technical University which includes events like Singing, Dancing, Plays, Fashion show etc.
  • High skilled professors with more than 10 years of teaching experience.
  • Scholarships are offered to students based on their percentages in 12th standard. One should at least have 80% in one’s 12th class to be eligible for the scholarship.
  • Group Discussions and Debates are conducted once every semester among all the students. This makes student-student interaction better and healthy.
  • To get admission into this university, one should secure good rank in Punjab Common Entrance Test.
  • Students from all parts of India come to PTU to pursue their studies. There is Fresher’s party held to enable senior-junior interaction.
  • The course syllabus is very vast. Two months will be very hectic especially to those who opt for B.Tech stream.
  • The average package offered for B.Tech students is around 3.5 lakhs per annum. However, it varies from branch-to-branch.
  • Some famous companies like Wipro, IBM, Lenovo, Aircel, HCL, L&T and Sapient visit Punjab Technical University every year during placement season.
  • In every semester of engineering, students will have three internal examinations in front of them in which at least two have to be cleared. Only after that, external or semester examination is conducted.
  • Campus & hostel life is too good. Food provided in the mess is just average. Students can take part in many extracurricular activities and projects like Robotics, Mechanics-related, and Programming etc.
