A Guide on Waterproofing Any Tent

Nature is unpredictable, it might start to rain in the most unexpected place, and might be completely fine the next minute. When you are out and about with your adventure gears, camping with friends and the weather suddenly starts to show signs of rain, what do you do? Do you let the rain ruin your experience with drops dripping inside the tent? Or, do you proactively take care of all this? If the latter is not for you, it is better you shore up the capability of waterproofing your tent. 

There are different ways to waterproofing your tent:

  • Sealing the seams

Here’s what you will need, a rag, a rubbing alcohol, seam sealer, and drop cloth to contain spills. How does all this work together?

  1. Set up your tent in a dry and well lit place so that you can properly examine the seams of it. Seal the underside of the fly and inside of the body of tent.
  2. If you find seam tape that is loosening up, gently remove peeling sections.
  3. Prep the seams by cleaning them with a rag and rubbing alcohol.
  4. If a seam is beginning to fall, you may want to apple seam sealer.
  5. Allow it to dry.
  • Refreshing the urethane coating of the tent, to make it a waterproof tent

If flaking off of the inside of the tent or rainfly is visible, then it’s time you apply a coating of urethane.

How does a tent sealant work?

  1. Lay your tent on a flat floor and scrub off the coating that is flaking up with the help of a sponge and rubbing alcohol.
  2. Apply a coat of tent sealant, a thin coat to the whole or just the tent floor.
  3. Let it dry for a day before you pack your tent away.
  4. Wash your hands thoroughly after the whole process.
  • Using the easy way, waterproof spray

Here’s a whole functioning and application procedure of applying waterproof spray to your tent.

  1. Set up the tent, spray the rainfly with just clean water at first.
  2. After this is done and completely dry, apply the waterproof spray over exteriors evenly.
  3. After a few minutes, use a damp cloth and wipe off any excess coating that you see.
  4. Let the tent completely dry before you pack it away.

There are some of the ways you can use to waterproof any tent, irrespective of its usage. Incorporate one of these and get a waterproof tent.
