5 Things That Make Excellent Charitable Donations

Irrespective of the number of improvements done so far in living standards, there are several things that are still inaccessible to many people. What we take as granted, is something that someone else is struggling to get. Charity is one of the best means to assist such people. While most of the times, it is done on a monetary basis, there are some other means to help such people too depending on the target. You don’t necessarily have to be someone wealthy. After all, any type of charity is a noble act.

This year, consider donating one of these items to a charity or a nonprofit.

1. Clothing:

There are plenty of charitable organizations who let you donate gently used items such as sweaters, sweatshirts, tees, shoes, garments and more. You can also donate your wedding gown to charity, but ensure that you exercise judgement while giving them. As everyone has the right to look fashionable and clean, you must ensure to restrict your donation pile to the outfits that are in good condition.

2. Cash:

If you can afford to write a cheque, go ahead. Even if you don’t find it as satisfying as giving boxes of goods, it is still a good idea. Many charitable organizations rely on annual cash donations to run their operations, especially in tough times. Besides, if you offer them currency, they can invest in exact items that they are running short of.

3. Personal hygiene items:

Maintaining personal hygiene comes with a cost as it requires numerous things required such as shampoo, soap, toilet paper, diapers, toothpaste and more. These items are usually covered by government assistance programs. You can check with charities or organizations and see if they are falling short of laundry or bathroom basics. However, while donating these items, make sure their seals are intact.

4. Food:

Considering the population of people facing hunger, food makes super easy and appropriate donation. If you can’t afford to give turkey or ham during festive season, you can stick to simple and affordable items such as yams, breads, sauces and more. However, charities usually include healthy staples such as meats, rice, beans, butter and oatmeal. Before giving them, please take a note that every item is commercially packaged.

5. Toys:

Toys make ideal donation for families who don’t have the necessary means to provide large gifts to their children. If you find any new or used toys while cleaning your kid’s nursery or playroom, please ensure they are clean, in good condition and safe to use.

Charity doesn’t have to be very big. A little act of kindness such as donating a wedding dress, packs of chips or toys can make someone happy. So, go ahead and make a change.
