Know Why Atal Nagar is the Fastest Growing Smart City IndiaPosted by swapnil jukunte on February 5th, 2019 On 21st August 2018, Chhattisgarh’s capital Naya Raipur was renamed as Atal Nagar in memory of our late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Atal Nagar comprises of 41 villages and covers an area of 8000 hectares. It is estimated that its population would be about 5.6 lakh by 2031. The sixth planned city in the country is the fastest growing Smart city India has known during her recent times. Atal Nagar Vikas Pradhikaran had developed a comprehensive plan to find the perfect location for the city and thus notified a particular area under section 64 of Nagar Tatha Gramnivesh Adhiniyam 1973. The notable features which make Atal Nagar one of the fastest growing smart cities in India are as follows. First Greenfield smart city Greenfield development will use innovative planning with provisions for affordable housing especially for the poor. The development is required to meet expanding population in the city. It will make use of technology, data, and information to provide better services and infrastructure. There will be safer communities and efficient public utilities with the help of greenfield development. Its decision making is data-driven and more effective. Infrastructure Roads The government has already constructed 75.2 kms of four-lane/six-lane expressway to provide easy access to the smart city India. A total of 61 kms is under-construction. Underground infrastructure such as sewage, telecommunications services, and water are being developed. Sanitation and waste management Atal Nagar will have a decentralised sewage treatment for better efficiency. It will also be called ‘Zero Discharge City’. Water resources The latest water treatment facilities will adorn Atal Nagar. The water supply system works on the Public Private Partnership model (PPP). A plan has been devised to construct an anicut on the Mahanadi river situated 23 kms away from Atal Nagar. The water treatment facilities will make Atal Nagar a green and smart city.
