Classrooms are fundamental for promoting learning and educating students. The classroom collectively serves as the stairs towards academic excellence of a student. The classroom is a learning entity that encourages student off all ages to acquire the same standard of education. A group of students having the same or different understanding level toward a problem makes up a classroom. Different strategies and techniques are used to promote a better understanding of subjects to students. A classroom serves as the base for students on every level to develop their intellectual, personality, interpersonal and communication skills.

A classroom collectively at any degree or program enables a student to polish his skills and develop an understanding of the subject by studying in-depth. Therefore, teaching style at every level is kept according to the needs of the students. A teacher plays an important role in polishing the skills of a student via incorporating several teaching approaches in the classroom. The lecturers, teachers or supervisors focus on the most popular teaching strategies these days to polish the skills of students useful for professional and progressing academic career.

The teaching strategies are known as Individualistic learning and community-based learning. The educators these days often debate over the effectiveness of both strategies over one another. Therefore, this blog mentions the basic of both strategies and evaluating which one outweighs another.

Individualistic learning:

Individualistic learning is the type of teaching style that promotes distinct erudition. It is the type of learning in which students are instructed to focus on their personal growth and development. This type of learning is a conventional method of educating students to keep the focus on their assignments. The student in individualistic learning approach concentrates on their assignments, projects, thesis or dissertation. The sole purpose of this type of learning is to develop an urge in the students to fulfill their own goal and acquire higher grades. The students are encouraged to study individual to develop understanding and forming a strong viewpoint of their own towards any issue or subject. The dedication, focus, effort, and personal decision making skills are promoted through individualistic learning of a student.    

Merits of Individual learning:

•          Individualistic learning promotes the student to accomplish every task with excellence.
•          Students are encouraged for independent thinking to get rewards and awards.
•          Individualistic learning promotes a challenging and computing environment in the classroom.       

Community-based learning:

Community-Based learning often promotes collective education. It is the type of learning in which students are instructed to study in team-work. This teaching strategy helps the students to maximize their learning opportunities and work together. The community-based teaching style helps to teach students with the same subject developing better understanding, concepts, and ideas about it with the help of others. The activities in community-based learning promote shared knowledge, cultural heritage, history, literature, common values and mutual support over any particular task. This teaching strategy enables the students to evaluate and critically analyze the other students to learn from their mistakes have a collective and positive approach.  

Merits of Community-based learning:

•           Community-based learning promotes co-operative social skills that enable a student to prepare for his professional career.     
•          Community-based teach promotes collective learning. Therefore, it enables students to collectively point out their mistake and correct them without discouraging anyone.
•          Community-based learning includes teamwork which obviously constitutes on multiple students some with higher IQ and some with lower. Therefore, practicing this strategy allows students to have equality in learning.  

Conclusion: Individualistic and community based learning is the basic two approaches to educate students on all level. Collectively these both strategies have pros and cons. However, no one can completely agree to incorporate a single strategy in the classroom for better learning. Therefore, considering both strategies in the classroom may become beneficial to encourage students for better learning opportunities.
