One of the healthy and tastiest types of Idli, Poha Idli is something that is worth trying. All the health-conscious people out there, this is one such recipe to add in your list of diet. Let’s take a look at the recipe to make these yummy Poha Idlis.
Take a bowl and add whole urad dal, idli dosa rice, and fenugreek seeds. Rinse them at least 3-4 times with enough water and then soak them in 2.5 cups of water.
Take another bowl and add thick poha to it. Rinse 1-2 times with water and then drain all the water. Add the drained poha in the bowl containing urad dal, rice, and fenugreek seeds. Cover the bowl and soak all the 4 ingredients for about 5-6 hours.
Now, take a grinder and add half of the soaked ingredients along with 1/2 cup of water and grind into a thick paste. In the same way, take the remaining half of the soaked ingredients and grind into a paste. Now, transfer all the batter in a bowl and rock salt and sugar to it. Mix well. Cover the bowl and allow the batter to ferment for at least 8-9 hours.
Then, add baking soda and mix again. Add baking soda only if the batter hasn’t fermented. Now, time to make Poha Idlis. For that, take the idli molds and grease with oil. Then, pour the batter in the molds and place them in the Idli stand. Take a pressure cooker and add 2-2.5 cups of water and bring the water to boil. Now, place the Idli stand in hot water.
Cover the cooker and remove the whistle from the lid. Steam the Idlis for about 12-15 minutes or more if the Idli isn’t cooked. To check whether Idli is cooked or not, take a knife and insert it in the center of the Idli. If it comes out clean, then Poha idlis are ready.
Remove the standout and glide a butter knife around the Idlis and remove them in a plate. Relish them with coconut chutney and sambar.
