Julio Licinio's International Research About Leptin

Julio Licinio is known for his depth in research of leptin and it's a role in conveying the feeling of satiety. IN this he identified three people from turkey who suffered from the leptin disorder and all of them are severely overweight. He administered daily about the leptin injections to each of them and found that all the patients lost half of their weight in 10 months. He discovered that despite the production of the dispersed mass of fat cells, leptin is secreted in a highly organized manner with distinct pulse rate that appears to regulate the minute rhythms of several endocrine axes. These axes include a hypothalamic pituitary gonadal axis,  hypothalamic pituitary adrenal axis, and hypothalamic thyroid axis. Julio Licinio had some colleagues who suggested that leptin may have anti-depressant effects and then that idea is extended in a further way. He also contributes to pioneer concepts that leptin has pro-cognitive effects in humans.

With the group, Julio Licinio conducted an extensive body test to evaluate more about the pharmacogenomics of depression which is started in the year 2000. This evaluation was done in National Institute of General Medical Sciences NIH Pharmacogenomics Research Network (PRGN). He also did whole research in the major depressive disorder in Los-Angeles. His pharmacogenetics research has resulted in the creation of several publication documents on predictors of anti-depressant treatment response in this population. He has received certificates and commendations both from the California State Legislature and the United States Congress.
