Affordable Mother's Day Gift Ideas

No matter how much she insists that she doesn’t really need anything, virtually every mom wants to be acknowledged on Mother’s Day. After all, being a mom is a lot of work!  These affordable Mother’s Day gift ideas will make Mom happy without breaking the bank.

Advertisers will try to convince you that Mom needs expensive jewelry or other extravagant gifts in order to feel appreciated, but that simply isn’t practical for most families. It also isn’t necessary to spend a lot of money to let Mom know how much she’s appreciated.

Experience gifts can be great for Mother’s Day and very affordable and enjoyable.

For many moms, the simple gift of some peace and quiet would be an amazing present. If you have young kids at home, take them out to the park, library, movies, or just on errands for a couple hours and let mom relax! Alternatively, she might want to get out of the house and leave the kids behind.

Many moms end up doing the majority of household chores, even if they work outside the home. Make her happy (and gain an appreciation for all her hard work!) by doing all her chores for at least one day.

If doing all the chores isn’t feasible, you can make Mom her favorite dinner for Mother’s Day (and be sure to do the dishes afterward!).

If you want to take the cooking experience a step further, make a stash of freezer meals that will save her time and energy throughout the week ahead.

Breakfast in bed sounds cliche, but if Mom is always busy getting everyone fed and out the door on weekdays she’ll appreciate having a slow morning while someone else makes breakfast. If she isn't a breakfast in bed type of person, just let her sleep in and enjoy some peace in the morning while you take care of breakfast for the kids.

Hearing that her hard work is recognized and appreciated is a great way to make Mom feel special on Mother’s Day. Make a point to tell her, specifically, things that you appreciate about her and what she does throughout the day. Let her know that you appreciate that she makes the meals, picks the kids up from school, does the laundry, or whatever else she takes care of for the family.

If you want a physical gift to give, there are many fun, inexpensive options.

Filling out an All About my Mom free printable is always fun! Kids give funny, blunt answers to the questions and the filled out questionnaire can become a keepsake.

Moms run on coffee! An affordable coffee gift is pretty much always a good idea for a busy mom.

Of course, there’s also the classic gift idea of a homemade coupon book. Make ‘coupons’ for things, like your help with the dishes, a foot rub, or laundry duty, that she can redeem whenever she wants. Your kids can help draw the coupons, or you can design them on the computer.

You and the kids can get creative writing affirmations or love notes for Mom. Create little cards with messages telling her how much she’s appreciated, then place them around the house where she’ll find them on Mother’s Day.

Lotions, soaps, and candles are affordable and always appreciated! Make sure to get her favorite brands and scents. If you don’t know what those are, check the bathroom to see what she’s using or just ask.

These affordable Mother’s Day gifts can help you make the mom in your life feel special without busting your budget. No matter which gift you decide on, make sure to let Mom know how much you love and appreciate her on her special day!
