Interior Design Trends for 2019Posted by Matt Morris on February 18th, 2019 We had a couple of decisions to make in our most recent home purchase. I love the look of the interior of new homes, but I do not like the price tag. Not only that, but I worry that homes may not be built with the same quality they used to, so we were hesitant to buy something brand new. Instead, we ended up purchasing an older home that we planned to renovate. With this, we knew that we could pay less for the home and have something structurally sound. Because we paid less for our home, we were able to invest some of our leftover money into interior design. I did a lot of research on what interior design trends were in right now, and I wanted to share some of my favorites that I found with you. Dark HardwoodI think our culture is spot on with the most recent hardwood flooring trends. Dark is definitely in, with many people choosing hardwood flooring that has gray tones in it. Dark and cool-toned hardwood is definitely the most popular right now, but let's be real. Light or natural hardwood is a classic and will always look good. We went with a greige tone for our hardwood. Agate WallpaperWe all thought the days of wallpaper were long gone, but it's beginning to make a comeback! Agate wallpaper is usually used in an abstract sort of way, with different splashes of color and design. I am not totally sold on the wallpaper, but I have a good friend who just had it put up in her house (and I love it!) Concrete Accents and CountertopsSurprisingly, concrete is seen making its way into more and more homes. Although we personally decided to go with marble, I found I liked the clean look of concrete. Bold ColorsAlthough muted colors have been more popular until now, we are beginning to see an uptick in people choosing richer and more dramatic colors. We decided to add some deep red accent walls in our living area, but I wasn't brave enough to do more than this! Floating SinksFloating sinks give the illusion of more room - so it's no surprise that more and more homeowners are leaning towards this home trend. Personally, I love the extra space I get from my normal counter, so we will not be switching to one of these anytime too soon! Tiled Bathroom WallsThis is one we decided to invest in. In our first home, we had normal walls, but ended up experiencing some staining from the steam. The walls were also incredibly difficult to clean, and I found it difficult to get them looking pretty. Tiled bathroom walls are more practical - as they are easier to clean and water resistant. Overall, the choices you make for your home interior design is up to you. It's important to keep what is trending in mind, especially if you do plan to sell soon. Some fads come and go very quickly, so if it's a question you should always go with things that are timeless (like those classic hardwood floors!) Like it? Share it!More by this author |
