How Social Media Changed Our Perception of Beauty Technology is rapidly changing and it's also changing the way we think and perceive things. Social media, for example, has introduced new notions regarding beauty and widened our perspectives on physical attractiveness. For years, television and print media have given us unrealistic images of ideal beauty. The ideal body type, face shape, hair, skin, eyes, and even lip shape have been portrayed unrealistically by mass media. These new standards have either intentionally or unintentionally forced us to conform. We often compare ourselves to what we see on television, print media and even strive to achieve a certain look. During the past few decades, advertising has consistently been one of the main contributing factors to insecurity among men and ebony women. That's because advertisers tend to highlight out insecurities and manipulate us into using a certain brand or product. But with the introduction of the internet and social media, people are becoming more aware and the attitude towards health has changed over time. We now see a lot of campaigns on body positivity and social media influencers that use social media sites pass as a platform for self-expression. Some countries have also made certain policies to promote body image and have begun enforcing strict regulations in advertising. These recent developments are obviously changing the way we perceive beauty in a positive way.
