Although modest clothing is usually associated with Islam and the Muslim culture, the same dressing style can be seen throughout many other different cultures in different time periods. Covering up the body was not an obligation, people actually liked wearing modest clothes. Fast forwarding to today, the stylish Muslimah fashion seems to hit the trends again, not only in the Muslim countries but all over the world as many mainstream fashion brands are embracing modest fashion. 2018’s Met Gala event is the proof of that. Like every year, last year, in the month of May, the Met Gala took place at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City and a lot of celebrities like Alicia Vikander, Evan Rachel Wood, Sarah Paulson, Bella Hadid, and many other popular faces were seen in their modest look. The theme was Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination. It would not be a surprise if we see some similar kind of dresses in the upcoming Met Gala event, which will take place on 6th May 2019.

The question is - what is the reason behind people showing their interest in modest clothing and why this fashion is back in trend? It seems that the fashion imagery is changing rapidly. A decade ago, some magazines and modest clothing brands avoided showing faces or the human form at all. It was primarily in deference to some interpretations of Islamic teachings, which say that the body needs to be covered. Now, so many Muslim models who wear headscarves or hijabs, are featuring in various ad campaigns and on the catwalk. Halima Aden, the Somali American model, walked for Kanye West's Yeezy and Max Mara. There is also one viral H&M video that features hijab-wearing Londoner Mariah Idrissi. Because Islam is not an ethnicity, the diversity in the Muslim population provides brands with a fabulous opportunity to bring something new in their collection and make people more familiar with the Muslim culture.

If you have always been a fan of modest clothing or the latest trend interests you a lot, you can embrace your love for this clothing style by exploring the wide range of Muslimah dresses on the Abaya online fashion store.
