All about: Program Management Professional (PgMP) certification

Program Management Professional (PgMP) is a recognized certification for ambitious program managers. The PgMP certification amongst various other certifications can be found in the PMI’s credentials. PgMP certification deals with a comprehensive certification program that helps pivot one’s career towards a program manager.

Attainment of a PgMP certification, characterizes an individual’s knowledge and exceptional ability to excel, under an organization. The certification benefits one, to be superior at strategizing and coordinating projects. It also provides a distinct advantage in promotion and employment.

Program Management Professional (PgMP) certification process:

In order to obtain a PgmP certification, the candidate must pass two evaluations:

  • Evaluation 1 : Application and Panel Review

A panel of certified Program Managers reviews your application and based on your responses to the Program Management Experience Summaries evaluates your professional experience.

 Evaluation 2 : Multiple Choice Examination

A total of 170 questions, out of which 150 questions are scored and the rest 20 being pretest, unscored. The candidate must decode and choose appropriate answers for both situational and scenario based questions.

 PgMP Eligibility Criteria: 

You must meet certain educational and professional requirements to be eligible for PgMP certification.

  • With Secondary Diploma :
  1. Minimum 4 years (6,000 hours) of non-overlapping professional project management experience.
  2. Minimum 7 years (10,500 hours) of non-overlapping professional program management experience.
  • With Four-year Degree:
  1. Minimum 4 years (6,000 hours) of non-overlapping professional project management experience.
  2. Minimum 4 years (6,000 hours) of non-overlapping professional program management experience.

PgMP Application Process:

  • Verifying the eligibility requirements for PgMP certification.
  • Complete the online Program Management Professional (PgMP) application and submit. The candidate has 90 days to submit the application, once started.
  • It takes around 10 days for the application’s approval and receive and application approval from PMI.
  • Post selection for audit, a 90 days’ time period is provided to submit the audit material.
  • Scheduling the certification until payment of the credential fees.
  • Upon submission of credential fees, there would be a panel review of the application which takes approximately 4 weeks.
  • Receive Test Codes and appear for the certification.

Overview:

The Program Management Profession (PgMP) certification evaluates the candidate of their theoretical knowledge of program management concepts, application of methods to resolve program challenges and common program challenges.

In addition, a PgMP credential holder will need to earn 60 PDUs (Professional Development Units) every 3 years for the continuation of the certificate. Also, the credentials are needed to be renewed within the 3-year cycle.
