2. Damaged or missing QBWUSER.INI file.

3. Your hard drive is Corrupted

4. Program files are Damaged

5. Damaged Windows operating system.

Let’s look at some solutions to resolve QuickBooks Stopped working.

Solution 1: Use the QuickBooks Install Diagnostic Tool (QBInstall Tool)

Step 1: Download the QuickBooks Install Diagnostic Tool.

Step 2: Save the file to Desktop, when it is asked.

Step 3: If you have any open programs, exit them and then Run QBInstall Tool.

Note: It may take up to 20mins or more to finish.

Step 4: Reboot Your PC after running the tool.

Solution 2: Reboot and temporarily turn off your Anti-virus Program

Step 1: Reboot your device.

Step 2: Open your QuickBooks Desktop.

Note: If the error continues, temporarily turn off your anti-virus.

Solution 3: Rename the QBWUSER.ini file

Step 1: Rename the QBWUSER.ini file.

Note: This method will remove the list of all your previously opened company files so you have to manually re-open your company file(s).

Step 2: Open the folder where the QBWUSER.ini is stored. If you can’t do it, then enable ‘Hidden Files and Folders’

Location: \Users\[Your user name]\AppData\Local\Intuit\QuickBooks [year]

Step 3: Right-click on the QBWUSER.ini and choose Rename.

Step 4: At the end of every file name, Add .old

Example: QBWUSER.ini.old

Step 5: Rename the EntitlementDataStorage.ecml file

Step 6: After renaming either QBWUSER.ini or EntitlementDataStore.ecml, if the program opens, attempt opening a sample company file.

  • It might happen that you are unable to open your company file but the sample file opens, in this situation, copy the file to a different folder and open it there (preferably a local folder instead of a network location). However, if you can open the company file from a different location, then it is a repercussion of damaged folders or misinterpreted folder permissions

  • In case you are not able to log in into your file even after this, then you must assume that your company file has been damaged. So try to restore an earlier backup of that file instead.

  • If you are unable to access the sample company file, the actual QuickBooks installation is damaged.

Solution 4: Reinstall by making use of Clean Install

The Clean Install Tool QuickBooks can really help you to fix many problems. When you clean install your device resets itself and the problem is gone.

Solution 5: Make a new Windows Admin User
