Hangzhou-Huangshan high-speed railway fuels tourism

The new line provides faster access to the Huangshan Mountain and many scenic spots in the Yangtze River Delta region. Tour groups involved in the event included overseas university students in Shanghai and Hangzhou who toured Jiande city, located at the confluence of the Xin’an, Fuchun and Lanjiang rivers, and foreign delegations working in Shanghai and neighboring cities who visited Huangshan Mountain. About 200 tourists who are interested in the history and culture of the Three Kingdoms (AD 220-280) visited the Longmen Ancient Town in Fuyang, where more than 90 percent of the local residents are surnamed Sun.

They are believed to be the descendants of Sun Quan (AD 82-252), king of the Wu State during the Three Kingdoms period. The event was hosted by tourism authorities in Hangzhou city in Zhejiang Province, Huangshan city in Anhui Province and China Railway Shanghai Group. The 265-kilometer high-speed line connecting Hangzhou and Huangshan reduces the travel time between Shanghai and Huangshan to two hours and 40 minutes, down from more than four hours. It strings seven 5A top grade national tourist attractions, including the West Lake, Xixi Wetland, Qiandao Lake and the Huangshan Mountain, and more than 50 4A scenic spots, as well as over 10 national forest and geological parks. The Z-shaped intercity line travels west through south Hangzhou, Fuyang, Tonglu, Jiande and Chun’an counties in west Zhejiang, and northwest to Sanyang Village, the counties of Jixi and Shexian, as well as Huangshan City in Anhui Province.
