ne of the first things to do in Jaisalmer is visiting the Jaisalmer Fort. This is a World Heritage Site. It was constructed by Rajput ruler Raval Jaisal in 1156 AD, hence the name of the fort was also named after him.

This fort is 1500 feet (460 m) long and 750 feet (230 m) wide and stands on at 250 feet (76 m) high mountain. The bastion of the fort is 15 feet long. There are four entrances to the fort from the city, and four cannons are placed on each gate. The main attraction of the fort is the first entrance. On which you can see a spectacular carving sample.There are 99 strongholds all around the fort, out of which 92 strongholds were constructed between 1633 and 1647.

Jaisalmer Fort is free to enter. Therefore there is no closing or opening time, no guards and a relaxed atmosphere inside.
