WordPress.org is used by more than 60 million websites, which includes more than 30% of the top 10 million websites. Apart from this, it is also the most popular website management system in use by WordPress Development Company.

WordPress.org recently launched WordPress 5.1, which specifically focuses on polish, in particular by improving the editor’s overall performance in the blog management tool. The new release is dubbed “Betty,” after acclaimed jazz vocalist Betty Carter and is available for update or download in the WordPress dashboard.

Besides, the latest release flags the way for a faster, better, and more secure WordPress. Users can now discern block editor improvements while developers will sight PHP version upgrade notices and will be able to benefit from other features too.

New features of WordPress 5.1

Site Health

WordPress 5.1 includes the Site Health feature, which focuses on security and speed. This feature is only for WordPress administrators as it informs and warns them. For instance, if they’re running long-outdated versions of PHP, which is the programming language that powers WordPress.

In case you’re installing a new plugin, WordPress’s Site Health features will check them against your version of PHP and stop the installation if the plugin requires a version that won’t work with your site.

Editor Performance

This feature was introduced in WordPress 5.0, but the new block editor continues to improve. Most notably, WordPress 5.1 focuses to speed up improvements within the editor and create the overall interface smoother and more responsive.

Some more performance improvements are expected in the next couple of releases

Developer Tools

Multisite Metadata

WordPress5.1 developed a new database table to store metadata corresponding with sites and permits for the storage of arbitrary site data relevant in a multisite / network context.

Cron API

The Cron API has been upgraded with up to date functions to assist with returning data and comprises new filters for modifying cron storage. Some of the other changes in behaviour affect cron spawning on servers running FastCGI and PHP-FPM versions 7.0.16 and above.

New JS Build Processes

WordPress 5.1 attributes a new JavaScript build option, following the large reorganization of code that started during the 5.0 release.

To conclude, WordPress 5.1 includes lots of corrections and changes, as well as precautionary measures. The PHP version is the key information for WordPress Development Company. Users and developers will be alerted regarding the outdated versions of the website management system.
