He is an interesting as well as a friendly individual, and he engaged me throughout the entire session. Ahmed was curious and persistent especially when he was interests with something.

 Test Results

The study used the Battelle Development Inventory (BDI) - 2nd Edition screening test employing standardized equipment, interviewing parents and making appropriate observations. The instrument of evaluation met all the requirements necessary for this study.

Discussion

The study was interested in assessing the progress made by Ahmed in the adaptive, personal-social, communication, motor and cognitive domains of child development. The study applied the Battelle Development Inventory – 2nd Edition because it accommodated all the domains. The test was also essential as it determined if it was necessary to refer Ahmed for further testing.

The results of the screening test were positive as Ahmed passed in all the domains. The results clearly illustrate that Ahmed’s scores exceeded the pass mark in all the domains. His scores in adaptive skills exceeded by four; personal-social exceeded by two; communication exceeded by eight; motor exceeded by one and cognitive exceeded by four. The scores had a standard deviation of -1.5. These results prove that Ahmed’s progress in the five domains is excellent and that he does not have any disabilities that may prevent his development.

Summary

The screening test shows that Ahmed has no disabilities that may affect his development. He displays excellent development skills in the five domains. The test also shows that Ahmed is developing at the right age level in the five areas tested. The test reveals that the examiner does not need to refer Ahmed for another test.

Recommendations

The screening test reveals a lot about Ahmed and the following are some of the approaches the parents should implement to better his progress.

  • Ahmed needs to interact more with children of his  age that will help develop his communication and also personal-social skills
  • The parents of Ahmed need to engage in conversations and make sure they use new vocabularies to increase his language skills.
  • The parents of Ahmed need to tell more stories and expose him to more pictures and objects to improve his cognitive and adaptive skills.
  • The parents need to engage Ahmed in small but fun physical exercises to improve his motor skills.
