All The Tools You Need For Dome Fiber Closure

What do you need for the DOME Fiber Closure fiber cleaning tool?

Fiber cleaning tools are a very large category, including tools for completing the various tasks in the fiber industry. So before proceeding with further research, please ask yourself: What do I want to do with this toolkit?

Some kits are available for traditional epoxy and polished connector terminations, quick connector terminations, splices, mechanical splices, optical cleaning, fiber testing and more.

Let's take a quick look at each type and its features.

1) Traditional epoxy and polished connector termination tool kit

This type of kit is sometimes referred to as the Universal Connector Epoxy Tool Kit. They include all the tools needed to manually polish the terminated epoxy fiber optic connector, such as FC, SC, ST, LC, etc. The following list shows all the items that should be included.

a) Fiber optic cable jacket stripper for removing the outer jacket from the cable

b) Fiber stripper to remove fiber coating (900um tight buffer layer or 250um UV coating) to expose bare fiber cladding

c) Kevlar scissors cut yellow strength members inside the fiber jacket

d) Fiber optic connector crimping tools for FC, SC, ST, LC

e) fiber scribing tool for scribing bare fibers

f) epoxy resin used to secure the fiber in the connector, empty syringe for epoxy dispensing into the connector

g) a glass polishing plate so that you can place a rubber polishing pad on it

h) rubber polishing pad so that you can place the abrasive film on it

i) Grinding film (including several coarse particles, usually 12um, 3um, 1um and 0.5um)

j) Connector for FC, SC, ST, LC manual polishing disc

k) Check the microscope so you can check the quality of your work

l) Thermal curing oven curing epoxy resin (220V or 110V)

m) Other misc. Items used for cleaning, such as Kimwipes, isopropanol, etc.

2) Fiber cleaning tools

Fiber cleaning kits are simple because they don't include tools, only some cleaning supplies. They mainly include:

a) canned air (optical grade)

b) 2.5mm foam swab for cleaning FC, SC, ST connectors, mating sleeves and adapters

C) 1.25mm foam swab for cleaning LC and MU connectors, mating sleeves and adapters

d) Kimwipes, lint-free

e) pre-soaked alcohol wipes

f) Fiber optic connector reel cleaner for FC, SC, ST, LC, MTRJ, etc.

g) isopropanol

Since cleaning kits usually contain alcohol, in most cases they are simply ground transportation.

5) Fiber Test Tool Kit

Basic fiber testing typically involves only insertion loss testing, visual fault location, and optional return loss testing.

You can purchase fiber test kits with or without fiber stripping and cutting tools. The most important items are actually light sources, power meters and optional visual fault locators. You can always use fiber strippers, cable jacket strippers, etc. in kits you may already have, such as the Universal Epoxy Connector Termination Tool Kit.
