INDIANAPOLIS -- After years of having it on his bucket list, Dale Earnhardt Jr. is finally coming to the Indianapolis 500.

NBC announced Wednesday that the retired NASCAR superstar and one of racing's most popular personalities will attend the 103rd running of the Indianapolis 500 as part of a broadcast team that includes retired driver/analyst Danica Patrick, host Mike Tirico and nearly a dozen others.

NBC also confirmed Wednesday that NBCSN's lead IndyCar commentary team of Leigh Diffey, Townsend Bell and Paul Tracy will call May 26's Greatest Spectacle in Racing.

When NBC announced last year that it had secured the rights to air its first 500, it was widely speculated that Earnhardt might be one of the prominent personalities it selected to join the broadcast team.

While Earnhardt could not confirm that was the case at the time, he wasn't shy about expressing his hope that come Memorial Day weekend 2019, he'd be standing somewhere inside Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
