Favorite Essential Oils And Their Uses | BBmassageandfloat

In the past few years I have studied and experimented with a variety of essential oils. I was interested in finding out if quality really would make a difference and I was curious about if I would notice any benefits from topical use or diffusing. I was a bit skeptical.

I have since discovered that essential oils are gentle, yet powerful! Also, I now know that a quality oil is necessary!

What are essential oils?

Essential oils are obtained from plants- including flowers, leaves, roots, barks and peels- using a steam-distillation, cold pressing or CO2 extraction process. Some companies sell plant extracts that they call essential oils, but to be a true essential oil, an extract must be obtained without the use of chemical solvents.

The typical oils that we most commonly come across such as olive, grapeseed and coconut, are known as “fixed oils”. This means that they won’t evaporate into the air. Essential oils, on the other hand, are labeled “volatile oils”, because they evaporate readily making them great for aroma therapy. They will also absorb more quickly into the body through the skin and pass deeply into the cells, tissues, organs and bloodstream, making them great for topical and medicinal use. This is why quality matters, you want healthy plant extracts entering your body, not a bunch of extra potent chemicals.

Are essential oils safe?

When trying any new product, it is important to remember that everybody is different. Essential oils are highly concentrated compounds. Whether inhaled, applied to the skin or consumed, using this level of concentration could mean that any sensitivity or allergy to the plant source will be magnified.

According to an article published by the Harvard School of Public Health, there are nearly 2 million hospitalizations and 128,000 deaths every year from properly prescribed medications. This makes prescription drugs fourth among the leading causes of death.

Alternately, deaths reported from vitamins, supplements and essential oils each year is Zero.

What oils should I start with?

Lavender: Lavender oil is the most commonly used essential oil in the world. It is often considered a “must-have” oil to keep on hand at all times due to its versatile uses, including relaxing properties that promote peaceful sleep, soothe headaches and ease tension.

Rosemary: Rosemary has been recorded to have been used as far back as ancient Egypt. It has been used to improve memory, boost brain function, soothe digestive issues, and relieve muscle aches and pains.

Eucalyptus: Eucalyptus has powerful therapeutic properties. It is ideal for opening airways, relieving respiratory conditions, reducing pain and inflammation, and serves as a remedy for skin irritations and insect bites.

Frankincense: Frankincense is one of the most prized and precious essential oils. It has extraordinary health benefits. It is used to help relieve chronic stress and anxiety, reduce pain and inflammation, boost immunity and even combat tumors.
