Canada speeds up the student visa process for Indians

Now, Canada came up with all new easy and simple student visa process mechanism for India and three other countries. Day-by-day, students are getting all new option for studying in Canada and they also came up with new laws which will help students in cut down the processing time for study permits. It has put an end from 60 days to within 45 days.




Canada came up with ‘Student Direct Stream’ (SDS) program that is beneficiary for Students from India, China, Vietnam, and the Philippines. This will be helpful for the students, who have demonstrated their skills and proved that financial or language is not a barrier from taking academic in Canada.



The meanwhile Student Partners Program (SPP), Students need less document for the student visa process. It’s also less time taking, and narrowed in scope. It is only applicable for students to 40 odd participating Canadian colleges. Previously, the SDS program was introduced in early June, is also available for students willing for post-secondary courses. These are applicable at all designated learning institutes, according to a statement issued by the Immigration for  Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).




The following announcement was made at the same time when the UK’s government announced to allow Indian students through an easier visa process. After giving protectionism in UK and USA, the number of Indian students making a choice for Canada. The Institute of International Education and the US Department of State submitted a report where it shows, there is a rise in India's got 63% more student visa in 2018.



Previously, in 2016 and 2017, the largest class of international students to be allotted the study permits was China. India topped this list in 2018. According to the facts, Indian students were the largest number to get an international student visa permit. This analysis was done by TOI, and open data is also available.



As per the Canadian Bureau for International Education, a non-profit agency in the educational domain, there were 4.95 lakh international students studying in Canada by the end of 2017, a rise of 20%. In Canada, by December 3, 2017, were China (with 1.40 lakh students), India (with 1.24 lakh students) and the Republic of Korea (with 23,050 students).



Talha Mohani an Ontario based, immigration law specialist and managing director at Migration Bureau Corp, came up with the most important aspects of the SDS program “A study permit application is assessed in terms of eligibility and admissibility, which include finance, language and medical. Under the SDS program, several of these criteria are to be satisfied upfront. The student must pay the first-semester tuition fee, in addition to buying a guaranteed investment certificate of Canadian $ 10,000. A minimum score of 6 for English in the International English Language Testing System is also required. The applicant also has to submit a copy of the upfront medical exam confirmation document. Given that some key criteria are met upfront when the application is made, enables the IRCC to reduce the time required to verify and complete the assessment process.”



“Canadian education and work experience (internship experience counts) are extremely valuable when it comes to job prospects in Canada.” Students of Canadian college and international students usually complete a work internship as part of their study course. This helps them in connection with further opportunities.



As per IRCC, “The SDS complements the express entry system as these students will be well placed to continue on the path to permanent residence and Canadian citizenship after completing their studies in Canada if they wish to.” The express program for permanent residency in Canada is totally based on point and a Canadian education collecting point. Mohani told, “an applicant can get 15 extra points for a post-secondary education program in Canada which is of a one to two-year duration and 30 points if it is of a duration of three years or more.” Still, no official announcement is made till yet on the most popular courses that Indian student wishes to choose. Experts say “business management, civil engineering, software engineering, medicine, and hospitality are some of the popular courses.”
