One of the places in the world where you may find Blackbucks is in the state of Texas, though it is interesting to know that blackbucks are not native to the USA. Blackbucks are native of the Indian Sub-Continent, where they have been declared as ‘Endangered’ under its wildlife laws and hunting them is a crime.  Blackbucks were introduced in the state of Texas sometime in the early 1930s. Now the estimated population of blackbucks in Texas is more than 25,000 and considering that this animal is on the endangered list in the Indian sub-continent, is quite good. Incidentally Hunting for Blackbucks in Texas is permitted, and many ranch owners have taken up breeding of blackbucks on their ranch. One of the prominent ranches that provide Blackbuck Hunts on their properties is Independence Ranch at Waelder, Texas. Let us discuss as to what this ranch offers for Blackbuck Hunting,

Locations and Sighting of Blackbucks

Although blackbucks move in herds, they have their own system of social congregation. Male blackbucks have their top body in dark color that tends to be almost black and the underbody is white or light fawn with white rings around their eyes. Male blackbucks have spiral horns that are absent on females, are very territorial and prefer to be loners and young males either graze together as a separate group or join the female group. When the female groups pass through the male area during the mating period, the dominant male will have his pick of females. The young males are not allowed along with females during this period. The rutting period of blackbucks is usually during the months of February and March as well as during September and October. The gestation period lasts for about 5 months. So, females give birth to young ones about twice in a year. Blackbucks need a lot of water to drink, therefore, they are usually seen around water holes or streams. Incidentally, Independence Ranch at Waelder, Texas, has a lot of water holes and running waters to attract the blackbucks.

Hunting Blackbucks and Closing the Hunt

Blackbucks prefer to graze in open savannah-type grasslands near watering holes where they can hide. They are very panicky animals and will bolt away at the slightest different sound or movement. The hunters need to be quick at a sighting and making a kill, also, avoid headshot to take back the head as a trophy back home. Hunting Blackbucks for meat, you will need to select a female blackbuck as its meat is savorier. After your trophy hunt, do not forget to inform the staff at Independence Ranch at Waelder, Texas, and ask them to have the trophy head, skin and meat packed and shipped to your address. When you proudly show these to your friends and family at home, you are sure to have a group expedition for another hunt at Independence Ranch at Waelder, Texas.
