Confronting Trauma Counselling Gold Coast

I’m pretty motivated when it comes to staying healthy and often a great source of questions that come up are, how did you become so positive peaceful and happy after so much trauma within your life from childhood into your adult life?

Because of the misinformation surrounding this topic (Trauma) is something I often like to rant about I wanted to share my story to show people that no matter what we experience, we can overcome it with the right support and retraining our mindset.  I know, how like myself, people think they are the only person in the world feeling the way they do.  Being diagnosed with PTSD at a very young age, I soon learnt it is a bit of a hot topic in my clinic at the moment, especially with my patients aging from 30 - 70’s.

I figured with all of the clients coming to me I’d take some time to set the record straight.  It appears a great number of clients believe that medications will fix their issues.  Being prescribed medication is sometimes necessary for extreme symptoms, however they do not fix or remove the core issue.  It has been proven however that used in conjunction with counselling, hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy and many other alternate modalities to be very successful to the clients recovery.

It’s pretty standard these days for medical practitioners, the media and government sources to promote all the perils PTSD  can include increased risk of cardiovascular disease, suicide and other illnesses to accumulate.

It might surprise you to learn that in truth, there’s no one fix for all, however if the client is open to a number of methods in conjunction with medications the results can be amazing with counselling gold coast. Our body is pretty switched on, and is designed for letting us know when we are not coping, stressed, in pain and losing control of our emotions.   Essentially this means it regulates things within our body to maintain happy levels.  However if the natural chemicals in the body are not working effectively due to trauma or stress, that is when the mind and the body can start to shut down.  If we increase our dietary intake of foods such as fruit, veg, nuts and berries then our body will commence healing itself.  So, this means that eating healthy as well has receiving professional support to enhance thinking in a more healthy way you can control the state of mind hence being able to replace irrational thought patterns with more rational thoughts which encourages the person to feel happy and live in a. Ore positive way.

That doesn’t sound so bad in reality, does it?  Yes it takes motivation and effort to achieve the desired outcome.  Speaking from not only personal experience with trauma causing (PTSD) but also from a therapeutic perspective I certainly know which end of the scale I would prefer.

Recently I have been working with a colleague who suffered horrendous abuse whilst working in a prison. She approached me to discuss within the book why people suffering with trauma react and relate to people in ways that are seen as inappropriate in the community, with their family and friends and in the workplace.  The book is called from “Trauma to Triumph”.  I would fully recommend it to all therapists starting their journey or are working with clients that have been traumatized as it insightful for both professionals and people looking for resources to manage their symptoms.  It is also a true story that may give people suffering some hope.

So next time you’re prescribed any kind of medication, I’d encourage you to take the time to examine the research and seek a professional who can work on the core issues to help you to release and let go to enable you to live a more peaceful happy life and learn coping strategies for the days where you are struggling.  Pharmaceuticals aren’t the devil and definitely have their place, but they’re often not the miracles they’re purported to be and may not be the best option for you.

If you are struggling with mental health issues book in and discuss your issues with a practitioner. Prevention is always better than the cure, and your health is the most valuable thing you have.  If you need any further information contact:
