How to choose the right type of hunting rangefinder

When we talk about good rangefinders, there are actually 2 different kinds. One is intended for Golf players, and another type is for the hunters. If you’re new to these devices, do explain your purpose to the shop owner and let him direct you to the right kind of rangefinders. In simple words, if you go hunting with a golfer-specific rangefinder, chances are it will not be of much use in the hunting situation. Here in this article, we will talk about the laser rangefinders only, which are categorically designed and crafted for the hunting purpose, with rifle or bow. Yes, it’s correct.

The hunting rangefinders are also divided into 3 categories, some are made explicitly for bow hunters, some are for hunters with a rifle, and there are few which can be used by both of them. To be honest, even pro hunters sometimes fail to differentiate between both, those are almost identical in features and functionality. However, there are several subtle features specifically designed for its intended usage. You need to learn about those features and select the correct one for you. Remember, not all features are useful for all purposes or for everybody or in every situation.

Therefore, even if you see some amazing features in a Golf range finder and want to buy that; remember one thing, it’s not the features which are important; it’s how you’re using those features. So don’t always go for that nice looking rangefinder with some fancy feature which is very expensive. You must select the highest quality one within your budget - quality is never synonymous with expensiveness.

Some of these rangefinders are mainly designed for close range purpose; hence they have insufficient magnification than other rangefinders which are made for long distance usage. Those long-range devices have better glass optics with multiple layers of coatings, bigger objective lenses and exit pupils for much better light transmission and crystal-clear sighting. Additionally, some have features like multi-targeting and ranging mode.

It’s not like you cannot use a golfers rangefinder while hunting and vice versa, both should work fine for casual purposes. However, if you’re in some serious hunting game, you should not take this casual approach and buy the rangefinder which is specially made for hunting.
