Muslims across the world observe fast for an entire month during Ramadan. It is the 9th month in the Islamic calendar and commemorates the first revelation of the Holy Quran by the Archangel Jibreel (A.S) to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). This month is also a holy month in Islam and the name is derived from the Arabic word 'ar-Ramad' or 'Ramida', which means 'dryness' or 'scorching heat'. All the adult Muslims are required to observe fast in this month, but it is not an obligation for the menstruating women, women in their pregnancy, women who need to breastfeed their children, the elderly, the sick, and the chronically ill.

The importance of an Umrah in Ramadan can be understood from the narration given by Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) about an event in the life of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). One day, the prophet asked a woman from Madinah the reason for not going on the pilgrimage of Hajj. In her reply, she said that her husband had gone with one of their two camels and the second one was needed for irrigation. The prophet responded by saying that an Umrah performed in the holy month of Ramadan was just like (in terms of spiritual rewards) performing Hajj with him.

It is owing to the significance of the pilgrimage performed in the holy month that many of the Muslims living in the United Kingdom desire to perform Umrah during this time of the year. They can fulfil this wish with the help of a range of Ramadan Umrah packages offered by the tour operators that specialise in the Islamic religious tours. In recent times, most of these tour operators have their own websites, which helps Muslims residing in the UK to browse through the available packages and choose one that suits their budget.

Upon booking any of the packages for Umrah Ramadan month brings for the UK Muslims well in advance through various tour operators in the country, the prospective pilgrims can have greater savings for their journey. However, before going ahead with their booking, they must decide their date of departure and the amount of time they intend to spend in Makkah. Once they are certain about the dates, they can make their booking several months in advance and get the desired package at a discount. They can utilise the amount saved for buying souvenirs or visiting the important places in and around the holy city.

Among these Islamic sites is Jabal al-Noor, which is a mountain located near the holy city in a region called Hejazi. It is famous for the Cave of Hira, where Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) had spent a considerable amount of time in deep contemplation and received his first revelation of the Quran. Another important place worth visiting is Mount Arafat, which is located in the plain of Arafat about 20 kilometres east of Makkah. It is also known as Jabal al-Rahmah, which literally translates as the 'Mountain of Mercy'. According to the Islamic traditions, this is the place where the first prophet Adam (peace be upon him) was forgiven for his sin.

The UK Muslims can have greater convenience in getting to the Masjid al-Haram and performing the rituals with the help of cost-effective Umrah packages.
