Van Noten gets Fashion, in a way no other designer does. He also gets casualization and good contrast, which makes this collection a hit.
The new ready-to-wear collection is particularly striking for its eclectic colour palette and bold patterns. Each of the new pieces uses custom-milled textiles to construct premium silhouettes that tread between quality tailoring and traditional workwear. It is artistically, posh exactly in the places a woman needs it, and at the same time rationally wearable. The collection further authenticates why Van Noten is known for his colours, his prints and his embroideries. It has it all- anoraks, pocketed popovers, utility coats — and sometimes with the addition of big pockets on coats or skirts. The genre is also paid respect with some beautifully draped dresses and skirts. The most liked outfit is a navy tailored pantsuit for the business work most designers have forgotten breadwinning women must do. A step is taken forward from the white shoes and boots, with a fun pair of pumps in diagonal stripes. Formal yet offhandedly uncontrived. Much of the palette is overtly upbeat, with an emphasis on blues and yellows, and florals.
