5 Hurdles to Technological Innovation in K–12 Education

Technological innovation in the education system is defined as ‘the process of modification of educational activities by introducing new technologies’ that are more useful and helpful for learners to increase their knowledge. When higher authorities try to make some innovation in K-12 education, few hurdles arouse, which created significant difficulties in the modification of the educational system. We live in the 21st century, and technological innovation is our collective need to sustain in this era.

Usually, teachers are trained according to the defined curriculum; if technological innovation is brought in k-12 education; proper training will be required for the teachers. Accountability standards will be at risk after technological innovation because higher authorities are not sure about the reaction of parents and teachers. They fear that parents will not accept technology in K-12 education because of the typical mindset regarding manual education being more helpful than innovative education.

Resources

Lack of resources is one of the significant hurdles to technological innovation in K-12. A greater amount of funds and budget will be required to transform the system that is entirely operated by technology and innovative ideas. Training centers will be required to train human resource because if proper training is not given to the teachers, there will be no benefit in the modification of the system. Lastly, technological practices and devices are very expensive, and the state cannot afford the expenses of innovations.

Schools

Our schools have typical education material and old learning methods, which are making trouble for technological innovation. Innovation will cause the removal of parent-teacher meeting, result cards and typical grading system of exams from the system. There are many schools which are not capable and much flexible to transform into innovative schools.

Every aspect of the educational system will be needed to change if innovation has to be made!
