What are the types of Lenses?

Soft lenses

Silicone hydrogel lenses

These are an advanced version of the soft contact lenses and are more porous in nature than the regular ones. They allow more oxygen to enter the cornea.

Hybrid contact lenses

These lenses are a perfect combination of the soft or silicone hydrogel lenses along with crystal-clear optics of gas permeable lenses. These lenses have a rigid gas permeable central zone and are surrounded by silicone hydrogel material. However, these lenses are difficult of it and somewhat more expensive than the normal ones.

PMMA lenses

These lenses have a transparent rigid plastic material referred to as polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) which is commonly used as a substitute shatterproof window glass. They provide an excellent view but are somewhat uncomfortable for the eyes as they do not transmit oxygen through the lens.

When to Dispose of the Lenses?

Just like the types, lenses are also known for their disposable qualities which are as follows:

• Daily disposable lenses — You can discard them just after the single day of wear

• Disposable lenses — Can be discarded within every two weeks, or even sooner

• Frequent replacement lenses — Can be discarded within a monthly or quarterly time period

• Traditional (reusable) lenses — Can be discarded within six months or longer
