Have you had the worrying task of hiring entertainment for your next business event? Is the idea of trying to find something that is clean, appropriate and entertaining for the wide range of people in your audience scare you? Do you feel that your boss and your employees will blame you if the entertainment is not top notch? You are not alone! As a corporate entertainer and entertainment provider in Houston, I receive calls from people who are in the same position as you. You want as close as possible to a safe thing, but how do you find the entertainment that everyone likes? Where do you start buying? How do you make sure the artist shows up and makes you look good?

STEP 1 - Evaluate your audience. Take a mental overview of your group. Are they crazy and noisy, older and weaker or a mix of everything? This determines your entertainment options. For example, a comedian or hypnotist could be excellent for a younger group, but a corporate magician or entertaining speaker could be better for a higher or mixed group. These days, it is very important that the interpreter's action is 100% pure. It's not worth losing your job because the artist you've hired tells discolored jokes that offend anyone in your organization!

STEP 2: List the types of artists you like and reduce the list to one or two types. For example, if your group likes to dance, put "band" on their list. If you like to laugh, list "magician" or "comedian".

Here are some actions I have found that work very well in corporate events:

Magicians Comedy: Make sure the troll specializes in corporate events and performs an appropriate LIMPIO show for adults (no magicians birthday party).

Clean comedians

Band - again, make sure they are regularly held at company events! You will not have Metallica in your business function.

Hypnotists: Beware of liability issues if one of your leaders ends up acting like a chicken in front of everyone.

Mysteries of Murder: Can be very fun if your group likes to participate actively in entertainment.

Fortune counters - Palm readers, etc. - Make sure they do not make negative readings or focus on the occult.

Artists of Caricatures: They are great because their people will be able to take home a great memory.

STEP 3 - Search the Internet. Check and reduce the search in the city where the event takes place. For example, if you are in Houston, write "Wizards in Houston" or "Houston Wizards" or "Houston Comedian." The best artists will have websites with videos, photos and statements from other business customers who will help them pre-qualify them before they call. You can also take the easy way out and call a talent agency who can recommend different artists.

STEP 4: Call or send an email to the practitioner for a quote. Make sure and explain exactly what you want, how many people will participate in your event and how long you want the performance to last. Be sure and consider the advice of the artist as he or she is likely to do it every night and can give you some good tips to ensure that entertainment is a success. I highly recommend you NOT buy just for the price. There is usually a really good reason why some artists are more expensive than others! In the end, it's always a better idea to spend a little more money to get a professional animator to make you look good. Make sure and ask for references and follow up on them. Most of the previous customers will be happy to tell you whether a particular artist has delivered the products or not.

STEP 5 - Get a Contract! Don't go over this, no matter what happens! All professional corporate animators use contracts. This will give you peace of mind that the artist will be exactly where he should be at the time he was going to be there. You may have to pay a deposit to support the artist. Don't worry, it only guarantees that the host celebrates the night of your event and does not reserve anything else presented.
