AI AND ITS APPLICATIONS

THE WORLD MADE EASY

We have been using technologies such as OK Google and Siri for a long time now to take care of tasks such as placing calls at the command of your voice, sending messages in a similar manner, doing calculations, or doing insanely weird things with them when we are bored. But have you ever wondered how exactly all that is happening? Like, you are just saying words that you have learned over the years, and, magically, whatever you are saying is being interpreted as a command by something that has not even lived the number of months as many years you have lived. And yet, somehow it is returning to you results in the most accurate manner. Ever wondered how many insanely sophisticated technologies were just running in the background all so that you didn’t have to do things manually?

HOW DOES THIS HAPPEN

All the things that we just discussed make use of a plethora of technologies in order to be executed. Deep learning, NLP, blockchain, and God only knows what else. The backbone of all these technologies is, however, artificial intelligence. In fact, artificial intelligence is the domain that has been formed by clubbing up all these concepts under a single umbrella. AI is all about the science and engineering of coming up with programs that can make the machines of today, even smarter than they already are and push them to their limits.

The very concept and approach towards Artificial Intelligence are to make a digital good (particularly a computer or a robot) smart and intelligent enough in order to give them a touch of the human species. There is just the one thing that we humans as a race and species possess that sets us apart from everything- our brain. But even for all its prowess and abilities, what we lack are thunderous speeds at which information can be processed- a trait available with computers and chips. And so, in order to understand and know more about the universe, we try to give these computers the ability to think and analyze upon stuff exactly in the manner that we humans do- by learning it first, then deciding on a problem and then trying to come up with solutions that are befitting for the same. All of this learning and understanding is composed of 5 major components viz. Reasoning, Learning, Problem Solving, Perception, and Linguistic Intelligence, in no particular order or hierarchy.

OBJECTIVES AND APPROACHES

The objectives and applications of Artificial Intelligence are as wide as it gets. Used in a multitude of industries in the modern world, some of these include-

  1. Reasoning
  2. Knowledge Perception
  3. Learning
  4. NLP (Natural Language Processing)
  5. Manipulate objects
  6. Game playing and development
  7. Cryptanalysis
  8. Simulations
  9. Understanding the nuances of human communication
  10. Analogical reasoning
  11. Distributed planning
  12. Computational linguistics
  13. Information retrieving
  14. Morph-fitting
  15. Applied Cognitive Science

In order to make all of the above and an infinite number of things happen, the tools used include-

  1. Statistical methods
  2. Computational intelligence
  3. Deep learning and neural networks
  4. Data analytics
  5. Data science
  6. Statistics and economics based tools and models

Resource Box

AI is a field full of totally unknown challenges and milestones at every nook, path, and turn. With it answering many of the questions asked by humanity till date, AI is at the forefront of all the technological advancements that we witness in the world. As such, for those looking for a break into this industry, the time to enroll in ai courses and get a chance to be a part of all the advancements and answering of problems in the future is NOW!
